Last 5 Games TRAP

The “last five games” box might be the most dangerous shortcut in sports research.

It looks useful because it is quick, clean and easy to understand.

But it leaves out everything that actually created those results.

Who were the opponents? Were the games at home or on the road? Did the player’s role or minutes change? Were those matchups unusually favorable?

Five games can show you what just happened. They cannot tell you whether it is likely to continue.

For all my in-season player prop and team research, I use DataStreak. The link is in my bio.
