How NHL assists props work
The line is almost always 0.5, one assist of either kind to cash, with elite playmakers occasionally at 1.5. Across 1,507 graded assists props at main lines, the over hit 25.3 percent: one in four, the price of betting on a stat that needs a teammate to finish the job.
The dependency stack
An assist requires a goal, scored by someone else, within two touches of your player. Stack the conditions: the team has to score at all, the scoring play has to flow through your player, and the official scorer has to credit the touch. Each layer sheds probability, which is why even elite setup men post empty nights behind cold finishers. The playmaker controls the passes; the prop pays on the finishes.
What concentrates assists
Power play quarterbacking first: man-advantage goals generate multi-assist credits almost by default, and the player running the top unit touches nearly every one; first-unit deployment is the strongest single signal this market has. Finisher quality second: the same passes become assists only when linemates convert, making your player's wingers a checkable input. Team scoring environment third: assists scale with team goals even more steeply than goals do, since most goals carry two assist credits; a projected four-goal night spreads roughly twice the assist paper of a two-goal grind.
How to evaluate an assists line
Documented rate at 0.5 in current deployment against the price. Typical plus prices set bars near 40 percent, well above the 25.3 pool, so the bet demands concentration: a power play quarterback with hot finishers in a high-total game. Defensemen running elite first units are this market's quiet aristocracy, often priced below their structural role because the menu defaults to forward fame.
